The Big Sandbox

Today we headed out to what Jordan called the "Big Sand Box".  Since it is Memorial weekend we decided it would be a good idea to get out of the house.  We haven't really done much exploring south of Boise (because of the whole flat desert wasteland thing).  Jamie found a place south of Mountain Home with some sand dunes and thought it would be a good trip.  We  loaded up the family and headed to the Bruneau Dunes State Park.  When we arrived Jordan was jumping out of her car seat to get to the sand.  I can only imagine what was going through her little mind, there standing before her was the biggest pile of sand she had ever seen (it is actually the biggest one any of us have seen considering it is the biggest single structure sand dune in North America at 470 feet high).  Without hesitation she ran over to the base of it and proceeded to climb.  Jamie and I were meandering around at the bottom thinking she was just playing in the sand but the little one had bigger ambitions.  She kept climbing and climbing, repeating "look daddy I'm climbing" as she ascended the mountain.  Soon she was about a third of the way up so we decided to go spot her.  Amazingly she climbed all the way to the top.

I should pause here and explain that the dune she was climbing was not actually the 470 ft one but a smaller one (we won't tell her that).  It was still about 300 ft to the top.  When we reached the top she was pretty excited and wanted to head right down the other side head first.  Not a good idea considering it was straight down.  At this point Jordan was like a machine.  Cairo and her were walking non stop around the dunes.  For those of you Star Wars fans they were like C3PO and R2D2 wandering the desert (look it up).  Climbing up one side and scooting down the other on her bottom, not even what I would describe as liquid sand running out of her nose could stop her.  I think she would stay out there indefinitely if she could.  When it was time to go she was not a happy girl. It wasn't until about 15 miles down the road that she finally stopped saying "I want the sand box".
I'm also pretty sure playing in the sand is like speed to little kids.  She didn't sleep a wink all the way home and when we got there she wanted to go immediately to the park, which she got to.

Hunting the Eggs

It has been quite a while since the last post on this blog.  90% is probably pure laziness the other 10% just life getting away from us.  We celebrated Easter this weekend with a big Easter Egg hunt in our back yard.  This was her second hunt of the day.  Earlier we decided to go to Woodriver Cellars for their Easter Extravaganza.  They had a petting zoo, face painting, egg hunt, wine and beer tasting, and a bouncy house.  The egg hunt that occurred there could only be described as a re-enactment of the battle at Normandy.  Kids were dropping left and right fighting for every last egg and the whole thing lasted about 30 seconds.  Jordan lucked out and got 3 eggs mostly because she headed out to the egg field about 3 seconds before the other kids and found a group of them at her feet as the wave of kids hit.  We enjoyed the day and the 70 degree weather didn't hurt.
